This workshop is for newborn photographers who want to start including film confidently, without overcomplicating their sessions or losing their style. Step 1. Online course
You will get access to the online Newborn course so this is where you will learn the basics like gear and settings. You can also watch me shoot a newborn session in my studio.
Step 2. Thursday 19th March 2026 - live online prep session
We want to be able to hit to ground running when we meet in person on the 27th so this is a pre-catchup to make sure you are ready and filter questions about settings and gear. We will also do a bit about planning what we want to film so we can get the best possible footage during the session.
Step 3. Friday 27th of March - In person workshop
This is an exciting part! We meet in my training room and studio where we get to film a real baby. We will have a lovely lunch and in the afternoon we start looking at editing a film together and creting social media content from our footage.

I will be doing both stills and recording video so you will see me swap between the two. I will use flash for most of the stills. You can have a play with my video lights too.

I haven’t run this exact workshop before, but here are some comments from a 1-2-1 training and also from my other online newborn course I did for the Milkyway Newborn retreat. People complete my training and go away and create films all the time.

QUESTIONS?
Do I need to have any video experience to join?
Not at all. This workshop is designed for photographers who are complete beginners or who’ve might have dabbled but don’t feel confident yet. We start gently, build slowly, and use what you already know from photography as your foundation.
Do I need specific gear?
I’m a firm believer in using what you have, I’m not about gear and teach. There is a short and sweet module about gear and I’ll help you choose only the bare minimum needed – you will be surprised by how little!
I will say that a mirroless camera is easier for you than the older DSLRs.
Will there be hands-on practice?
Absolutely! I will get a real baby for us to film on the day. I will be shooting stills as well as filming as I always deliver both to the family. You will be recording footage that you can go away and use in your portfolio.
Will I be able to make a film by the end?
Yes absolutely. You’ll learn the essentials of recording and editing, so you leave with the skills (and confidence) to put together your first simple, meaningful video. This is your first step towards offering video as part of your services.
Where is this hosted?
This is in my Market Harborough studio and training room. The postcode is LE16 7DX. It’s a few minutes walk from the train station and we are on the main train line, one hour from London St. Pancras.
Can I download the online materials?
You will have 12 months access to the online course. The materials are all hosted online so can be watched from anywhere but you will not be able to download them.
