It’s easy to feel photographers are quite a saturated field and everything is already covered. However, in the world of video not so much.
It’s still very much the minority of photographers who can offer to include video at family/newborn/baby shoots, so it’s a great way to stand out from the crowd.
Within the commercial world the opportunities for video are huge. All the brands are keen for video content both for website and social media.
You don’t even need to offer big promotional videos, you can absolutely just offer individual snippets of video footage that the companies can use in which ever way they like – the majority of my commercial clients just ask for short clips.
Look at what you offer in photography, newborn, babies, kids, families, dogs, horses, commercial, wedding etc Now consider the commercial versions of those genres. If you are a dog photographer, pop into your nearest pet store and glace at the shelves, in minutes you can find hundreds of dog brands, all companies that could potentially need video for their marketing. Same for horses and every other genre we work in.
The Farm Tog is a local photographer to me, and is a perfect example of finding new commercial video opportunities on her doorstep. She lives on a farm and the agricultural industry is also full of brands. She shoots for some really big agricultural machine brands and it’s a great fit for her work. There is never a dull moment delivering on site video training with Anne.
Now go and write down a list of ideas for commercial video work you could go and explore straight away ;o)
I you feel you need to sharpen any video skills first, do go and look at my online training courses, including the video editing course if you just need that part.
Or, if you learn better in person I’m always happy to do that too. It’s great learning on your own work!
